TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Welcome to Common Sense Conservatives in Florida Politics, highlighting the people statewide delivering wins for the conservative and liberty-loving movement across the Sunshine State over the past week.

For the week of 6.17.24

Veterans’ bill sponsors: Gov. Ron DeSantis signed new laws this week that ensure students learn about the importance of Veterans’ Day and Memorial day, expanding access to veteran care homes, expanding outreach and more.

Those who signed onto the bills include Reps. Mike Redondo, Danny Alvarez, Marie Woodson and John Snyder, and Sen. Danny Burgess. Florida remains the best state for Veterans.

Cancer research legislation sponsors: Gov. Ron DeSantis was joined by First Lady Casey DeSantis this week to sign legislation to improve Florida’s cancer treatment research.

The lawmakers who signed on or spearheaded the bills include Reps. Sam Garrison, Karen Gonzalez-Pittman, and Sens. Gayle Harrell, Ana Maria Rodriguez and Alexis Calatayud.

Attorney General Ashley Moody: She led a new lawsuit disputing the gag order sought in former President Donald Trump’s Florida classified documents case, led by Special Counsel Jack Smith. Republican presidential candidates have free speech, too.

Broward charter schools: Around $100 million is set to be paid out to Broward charter schools by the district. The money follows the student, even in Broward.

Lake County GOP: Outrage among party leaders erupted after a candidate for property appraiser allegedly filed his name after the qualifying window closed as a Republican. The problem is, the incumbent registers as a write-in candidate to avoid supporters footing additional fees.

Guess it’s not just Democrats who apparently play games with elections. Lake GOP is on the right side.

Mike Haridopolos: His 99% chance of victory couldn’t get any higher, but Complete and Total Endorsement™ by former President Donald Trump.

State Rep. Randy Fine: Fine, who is Jewish and visited Israel this week, called on Captains for Clean Water to return donations to Patagonia after it was revealed the company helped funnel funds into a Palestine terror-linked group. Keep your pocketbooks clean of Palestine-linked dollars.

Fish & Wildlife Foundation: The foundation gave $250,000 to Yes on 2, the campaign backing the right to hunt and fish on the ballot this November.

At this rate, Yes on 2 is going to have a bigger war chest than the Florida Democratic Party.
