BOCA RATON, Fla. –  Outrage ensued after a bold gathering of spring breakers were reportedly caught disposing of large volumes of trash off their boat and into the ocean.

Over the weekend, Boca Bash, an annual event in Florida, saw a large turnout with approximately 10,000 participants celebrating at sea, engaging in lively festivities marked by abundant alcohol and spontaneous moments of clothing removal, the Daily Mail reported.

After departing from the notorious party on Sunday, videos shared on social media depict a group of individuals emptying two garbage cans filled with trash into the ocean, followed by celebrations.

WSVN-TV reported a local who often takes his boat out in those waters, Rodrigo Samsing’s reaction to the group of people littering. He said “it just really infuriates you to see someone trash the ocean like that.”

“You know, nobody else on the boat tried to stop them. Everybody was just celebrating,” Samsing said.

He called it “really sad to see.”

“I mean they already had the trash sitting in the garbage can, they could have just put it in a bag, grabbed a bag, filled it up and thrown it away,” he said. “Instead, they just dump it carelessly into the ocean.”

The Boat U.S. Foundation cited the federal litter law on their website, which if broken, may result in civil penalties up to $25,000, a fine of up to $50,000 and/or a prison sentence of up to five years.

“Under federal law, it is illegal to toss ANY garbage from a boat while you are anywhere in lakes, rivers, bays, sounds, and offshore in the ocean less than 3 miles,” the website said. “Yes, this means you can’t throw a banana peel or your half-eaten sandwich overboard.”

Under Florida’s Litter Law, individuals who unlawfully deposit over 15 pounds of waste into a waterway may face a first-degree misdemeanor charge. This offense carries penalties of up to one year in jail, a fine of $1,000, and/or one year of probation.

In a statement, Boca Bash reportedly announced that they have identified the group responsible for dumping garbage into the ocean from the boat.

They reportedly condemned the actions captured in the video as “egregious” and “completely unacceptable,” emphasizing that “irresponsible boaters like this, who demonstrate zero regard for our oceans, tarnish the reputation of this event.”

Records obtained by Boca News Now indicated that Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Officers apprehended nearly twenty individuals during the Boca Bash weekend, mainly on charges related to boating under the influence and drugs.
