FLORIDA (FLV) – Tuesday, national gas prices ticked up slightly to $5.016 per gallon.

Close behind, Florida’s price remained approximately the same at $4.889 per gallon, trailing the national average by around 11 cents.

Gas prices remained consistent from Monday, bucking a multi-cent change seen almost daily in recent months.

Monday, national gas prices topped $5 per gallon while Florida trails 11 cents behind at $4.89 per gallon.

Since Friday, the price of gas in Florida increased 7 cents, a nearly 1.5% price increase just over the weekend.

Friday, Gov. Ron DeSantis reacted to new reports of record-high inflation, saying that the 8.6% inflation report is “brutal” for Americans.

“It’s one thing to have to deal with this for a little bit if it was going to start going down, but that is not what that report says today,” DeSantis said. “And that just is indication that there’s going to be some rough sledding ahead.”

“We’ve gotten massive surplus, and we’re going to be able to meet our needs and all the services and things people depend on,” he said. “That’s going to be good.”

Florida’s current average price for gas soared to another high at $4.82 per gallon.

The average price inches closer to $5 per gallon and is up 6 cents from Thursday. One month ago, the average price in Florida was $4.28 per gallon.

The national average is $4.99 per gallon, just barely missing the $5 mark.

On Monday, Gov. Ron DeSantis attacked Biden for the skyrocketing prices.

“Biden can’t understand why people are dissatisfied,” he said. “It’s like you came in and waged war on American energy production.”

According to a new ABC News poll, President Joe Biden received a 27% approval rating on handling gas prices.

ABC reports that only 37% approve of his handling of economic recovery and 28% approve of his handling of inflation.

According to AAA, national gas prices are about to eclipse $5 per gallon, sitting at $4.96 Wednesday. In Florida, gas prices sit below the average, at $4.77.

Gas prices continue to break record highs in Florida with the state’s current average price for gas at $4.76 per gallon.

The national average, according to AAA, is $4.86.

Gas prices have steadily increased over the last several months in Florida:

Sunday’s highest average: $4.75

In another blow to drivers, the highest recorded average price for gas in Florida reached another high.

Florida’s record high for average gas prices jumped to $4.64 Wednesday from $4.57 the day prior according to AAA. The national average for gas is not any better with prices leaping to $4.67.

The average price for gas in Florida is up 46 cents compared to one month ago. AAA expects demand for domestic gas to climb as drivers fuel up for a summer travel season.

“But 67% of drivers recently surveyed told us they would change their driving habits if gas hit $4.50 a gallon. That number rises to 75% at $5 a gallon. If pump prices keep rising, will people alter their summer travel plans? That remains to be seen,” AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross said.

In May, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the largest tax relief package in Florida’s history, which includes a cut on the gas tax.

A Florida gas tax holiday goes into effect on October 1st, reducing the tax by $0.25 per gallon.
