WASHINGTON, D.C. – Every Florida Republican representative in Washington, D.C. voted Wednesday to greenlight a House impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

The measure passed the House 220-212.

All Florida Democrats voted against it.

The resolution directs the House Oversight, Ways and Means, and Judiciary committees to continue investigations by House Republicans to determine if there are “sufficient grounds” to impeach Biden.

The process of impeachment has several steps, starting with investigations and inquiries.

Under the U.S. Constitution, impeachable offenses include treason, bribery or other “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

A political rather than criminal legal process, the House of Representatives serves as the body to formally “indict,” or charge, the president. The House must decide if the president’s conduct constitutes a “high crime” or “misdemeanor.”

To accomplish that, official articles of impeachment must be filed. To pass, only a simple majority is needed.

From there, the president is put on trial in the Senate for official conviction.

Former President Donald Trump, for example was impeached twice by a Democrat-controlled House. The Senate requires two-thirds to convict and remove from office, which is why successfully impeaching and removing is difficult.

Officially, Trump was acquitted on all counts in both cases.

Biden called the vote a “baseless political stunt.”

Republicans’ arguments for impeachment involve allegations involving Biden and his family’s business dealings.
