Almost 2 Million Without Power Due To Hurricane Ian

FLORIDA (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis provided an update on recovery efforts following Hurricane Ian on Friday morning, reporting that 15% of power has been restored.

Power

Almost 2 million people are still without power as of Friday morning. DeSantis says some situations may require a re-build.

Search and Rescue

Officials are conducting multiple rounds of searches for survivors in affected areas. Search and rescue teams were deployed Thursday morning to begin life-saving missions on the barrier islands in southwest Florida.

Lee County Update

Lee County currently does not have water due to a water main break. Water continues to be brought into the area.

Bridges

800 bridges across the state have been re-opened in Lee County, Charlotte County, and Sarasota, and Manatee Counties.

The Sanibel Bridge had breaks in multiple parts of it and will require a re-build.

Healthcare Facilities

6 Healthcare facilities were evacuated in Southwest Florida due to problems with water and power. 117 facilities had lost power but have now had power restored.

Ports

Ports of Tampa Bay, Miami, and Everglades are reopened for fueling. Between today and tomorrow, all ports will be operational across the state of Florida, according to DeSantis.

Generator Safety

Officials are receiving reports of continued issues with carbon monoxide and remind people to operate generators outside. Do not have cords run through puddles of water.

Florida Disaster Fund

DeSantis reports 12 million dollars have been raised so far in the Florida Disaster Fund.

Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis previously announced the activation of the Florida Disaster Fund to support Florida’s communities impacted by Hurricane Ian.

The Florida Disaster Fund is the State of Florida’s official private fund established to provide financial assistance to our communities as they respond to and recover from times of emergency or disaster, according to the press release.
