TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Americans for Prosperity Action issued its first round of Florida endorsements for the upcoming 2024 election, highlighting four candidates for Florida Senate seats.

The organization, also known as AFP Action, put its support behind current Sens. Corey Simon, R-Tallahassee, and Bryan Avila, R-Hialeah, for their reelection efforts, as well as Reps. Tom Leek, R-Ormond Beach and Stan McClain, R-Ocala in each of their own Senate races.

AFP Action Florida senior advisor Skylar Zander highlighted the organization’s support for the candidates and the need to conduct strong grassroots campaigns.

AFP Action is confident that these proven leaders will continue to serve the interests of their constituents in the Senate while advancing legislation that unleashes freedom and prosperity,” Zander said.

“Local leadership has made our state a strong example across the nation despite reckless policies from Washington,” Zander added. “We look forward to delivering results for residents throughout the state and our grassroots activists are ready to connect with voters.”

The organization also made brief comments on each candidate and why the group was supporting them.

“As Senate Education Committee Chairman, Senator Simon prioritized educational freedom and opportunity for all Floridians,” AFP Action said.

“He prioritized passing the largest universal education savings account bill in the country, while also working to remove barriers for traditional public schools,” it added.

Simon ousted an incumbent Democrat in 2022 and faces new challenges in his upcoming 2024 race.

The group mentioned Avila’s fiscal responsibility as a driving reason behind the decision to endorse him.

“He’s ensured Florida isn’t committing to long term debt and instead focusing on the core functions of government,” the organization said.

Avila is currently unopposed for his reelection bid.

AFP Action highlighted both Leek and McClain’s commitment to addressing private property issues during their time in the House, whether it be Leek’s work to lower insurance costs or McClain’s effort to solve housing affordability issues.

Leek is running for senate in District 7, while McClain in running in District 9. Both face opposition in each of their races.
