WASHINGTON, D.C. (FLV) – Incoming U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-FL, believes Congressman Adam Smith, D-WA, may have ulterior motives when it comes to funding the war in Ukraine, citing donations Smith received from multiple defense contractors over the past few years.

Luna tweeted, “@RepAdamSmith is calling anyone who wants accountability for the $ we’re sending to Ukraine a ‘Russian Asset.’ Here is a small look at his top PAC donors. Who is the real asset Adam?'”

During the Reagan National Defense Forum, Smith reportedly said, “the assertion that tens of billions in Ukraine aid isn’t overseen properly ‘makes me a little crazy.'”

Politico reports that Congress has spent around $66 billion dollars so far in the response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to include “emergency funding for military, economic and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine as well as money for the Pentagon to replenish stocks of weapons that have been sent into the fight.”

Smith argued that the assertions are part of Russian disinformation, saying, “Number one, the focus on that is part of Russian propaganda. All these stories about how the money isn’t being spent wisely. Second, Ukraine is spending the money really well. That’s why they’re winning.”

His response was directed at U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer, R-NE, who said, “We need more oversight of the spending for Ukraine.”

“I think, yes, we need oversight, but we don’t need that as an excuse to not fund what we’re doing in Ukraine,” Smith said.

Smith is the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee and his top donors throughout the last few years have included military contractors, according to Open Secrets.

“War is good for those that profit from it. Especially Congressmen taking money from the companies benefiting,” explained Luna.

Florida’s Voice reached out to U.S. Rep. Adam Smith’s office multiple times and did not hear back.

Below is a list of his top contributors in 2022:

The top company, Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. operates as a government contractor of the U.S. Department of Defense, providing microwave electronic products, space and satellite communications, training and cybersecurity/ warfare, C5ISR/ modular systems, turbine technologies, and defense and rocket support services.

Kratos made headlines this past year because the US Navy awarded them $14.7 million dollars for target drones.

Below is a list of the top contributors of 2020:

The top contributor, Lockheed Martin previously made headlines after winning a $431 million contract from the U.S. Army to produce M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System launchers at full rate with the aim of rapidly replenishing the stocks of the U.S. and its allies and partners who sent arms to Ukraine.

Many Republican politicians have called for an end to the spending, including incoming U.S. Rep. Cory Mills, R-FL.

“I personally would not vote for any continuance of funding,” Mills previously told Florida’s Voice, noting that previously approved funding should be 100% audited.

Florida’s Voice reached out to Smith’s office for comment and will update this story if a response is received.
