Arctic air, cold weather to sweep Florida this week

MIAMI – Florida will host another slew of cold weather this week with arctic air heading south.

According to the National Weather Service, after Monday’s high temperatures in some parts of the state nearing 90 degrees, temperatures in southern Florida will enter the 50s and in northern Florida, the 30s.

The cold begins Monday night, with temperatures reaching as low as 45 in northern parts of Florida and the low 60s in southern Florida.

It will get colder statewide Tuesday, with southern portions of the state seeing weather below 60 degrees, and the northern half of the state entering the 40s and 50s.

Then, Panhandle region of Florida will reach temperatures of 35 degrees into Wednesday and Thursday evening. The rest of Florida will be in the 40s and 50s, except for Key West.

Though uncommon, extreme cold temperatures are possible even in southern Florida, according to the National Weather Service. Dropping below freezing temperatures of 32 degrees is extremely rare in this portion of the state.

Florida’s long term winter outlook expects no higher likelihood of activity out of the ordinary.
