TAMPA, Fla. (FLV) – President Joe Biden is traveling to Tampa to tout his Medicare and Social Security plans, according to reports.

Biden will be speaking at the University of Tampa for a Thursday afternoon speech scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

At the State of the Union address Tuesday, Biden spoke out about having a safety net for millions of Americans.

“Social Security and Medicare are a lifeline for millions of seniors,” Biden said. “Americans have been paying into them with every single paycheck since they started working. So tonight, let’s all agree … to stand up for seniors. Stand up and show them we will not cut Social Security. We will not cut Medicare,” he said.

Biden is heading to at least 20 states with Vice President Kamala Harris to promote his policies from the State of the Union speech.

During the speech, he called out Republicans for wanting to “cut Social Security and Medicare.”

On Wednesday, Biden mentioned Sen. Rick Scott, R-FL, during a stop in Wisconsin.

“I remind you, Rick Scott from Florida, the guy who ran a U.S. senate campaign, has a plan. I’ve got his brochure right here. It has a plan. Here’s what he says in his plan. Let me open it up here. He says all federal legislation sunsets every five years. If a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again. Social Security and Medicare, Medicaid,” Biden said.

Scott released a statement calling out Biden for what he referred to as “lies.”

“Joe Biden had no accomplishments to tout in his State of the Union speech, so he told lies instead. Biden hurled the tired and false attack that Republicans want to get rid of Medicare and Social security,” he said.

Scott tweeted, “@JoeBiden said he would veto any bill that cuts Social Security and Medicare. So why did he write a bill that would do just that? He’s confused and should resign.”

The Republican Party of Florida responded to the news of the visit with the following statement:

“If anyone needed a reminder as to why counties like Hillsborough and Pinellas flipped for Governor DeSantis, they have one today with Biden’s visit to Tampa. Biden and Democrats consistently put special interests over educators and students, inflationary spending over the best interest of American families, and open borders over American security,” the statement said.
