TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – Sen. Blaise Ingoglia, R-Spring Hill, filed “The Ultimate Cancel Act” Tuesday to immediately de-certify any political party that previously advocated for slavery in their party platform.

“For years now, leftist activists have been trying to ‘cancel’ people and companies for things they have said or done in the past. This includes the removal of statues and memorials, and the renaming of buildings. Using this standard, it would be hypocritical not to cancel the Democrat Party itself for the same reason,” Ingoglia said.

The Democrat Party adopted pro-slavery positions into their platforms during the conventions of 1840, 1844, 1856, 1860, and 1864, according to a press release from Ingoglia.

“Some people want to have ‘uncomfortable conversations’ about certain subjects. Let’s have those conversations,” he said.

Any registered voters affected by this de-certification would automatically become “non-party affiliated” (NPA) voters, according to a press release.

The bill text said if the division cancels the filings of a political party, the division must provide notice to each voter registered with the canceled political party that the political party has been canceled and his or her voter registration information will now reflect “No Party Affiliation,” and provide procedures for the voter to update his or her party affiliation to an active political party.

House democrats responded on Twitter and said, “Ridiculous. Extremist. Out of Touch. Violates 1st Amendment. We hope it gets referenced to the Senate Subcommittee on (trash emoji).”

Ingoglia responded in their Twitter thread defending his bill.

“Sorry, we don’t base our party’s platform on what happened ~180 years ago. We evolve and grow. Glad to hear you don’t support the insurrectionists who attacked the core of our democracy on Jan 6, though,” they wrote to Ingoglia.

This story has been updated to include Florida House Democrats’ response.
