BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (FLV) – Brevard School Board Chairman Matt Susin and newly-elected conservative school board members Megan Wright and Gene Trent endorsed Rep. Randy Fine, R-Melbourne Beach, for Florida Senate on Wednesday.

Fine has served in the Florida House since 2016. He is running for the District 19 seat in Brevard County, which is currently held by Debbie Mayfield, who cannot run due to term limits.

“Representative Fine has stood strong in the face of adversity and represented our county as a true conservative. He has never wavered as a watchdog for our citizens, possesses the true character of a leader, and is what Brevard needs in our next state senator,” said Susin.

According to Florida Division of Elections website, Fine is the only one who’s filed to run for the seat as of Feb. 15.

“I am honored and humbled to be endorsed by the new parent-focused majority on the Brevard County School Board,” said Fine.

“My disgust with the previous majority was no secret – they explicitly said parents were not qualified to have an opinion about their child’s education and their policies led to the abuse of many of our children,” he said.

Fine currently serves as the chairman of the House Health & Human Services Committee, where he oversees all aspects of healthcare and welfare reform in Florida.

Previously, he served as chairman of the House Pre K-12 Appropriations Subcommittee and of the House Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee, where he redesigned the process of capital funding for state universities.

Recently, Fine was one of the co-sponsors who filed a bill in the Florida House that would implement enhanced criminal penalties for offenses classified and reported as hate crimes, which the co-sponsors said is in response to the rise in antisemitism in Florida.

Fine has worked to pass over two dozen pieces of legislation, including a bill to take away the Walt Disney Company’s power to govern itself in Central Florida.

Fine has also received endorsements from Florida Family Action, state Reps. Thad Altman, Chase Tramont, and Webster Barnaby, Republican Party of Florida Chairman Joe Gruters, former Senate President Mike Haridopolos, and the International Union of Police Associations.
