FORT MYERS (FLV) – U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds, R-FL, told Fox News that he is prepared for a government shutdown help curb spending and address high inflation.

“Are you prepared for a government shutdown in order to cut spending?” Donalds was asked.

“I’m prepared for a government shutdown in order to get our country back on track,” the Florida congressman replied. “Like, the government is not working for anybody right now. It’s actually created the massive inflation, which is crippling Americans all across the United States.”

Donalds went on to slam the border crisis and issues with military recruitment.

“We have a southern border that’s wide open, the government’s paying for that. We have woke ideology in our military recruitment is down significantly in our military were funding that as well. So if it means that you have to stop the government from running its day to day operations so that we can actually fix the systemic and fundamental issues that are facing the American people, then so be it.”

On potential political blowback and blame for the shutdown, Donalds said he will take “full responsibility” of the “success that comes from getting the country back on track.”

“Like I just said, if we secure the southern border, but it takes a government shutdown to do it, I’ll take full responsibility for that because fentanyl is killing people [in our] cities no matter what your race, no matter what your politics are, it is indiscriminate,” he went on. “So if that is, if we’re gonna say that shutting the government down leads to fentanyl something stopping coming across our border and the rapid amounts that it is because of Joe Biden’s reckless border policies, I will take all the all of the responsibility for that.”
