Byron Donalds urges New Yorkers move to Florida after pizza oven crackdown threat
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – U.S. Rep. Bryron Donalds, R-Fla., urged New Yorkers to move to Florida after new rules proposed by the city’s Department of Environmental Protection could crack down on pizza ovens.
Donalds commented on a Newsmax article that said New York City’s coal and wood-fired pizza ovens “may have to slice carbon emissions by up to 75% under new rules proposed by the city’s Department of Environmental Protection.”
“New York: Where taxes are high, crime is out of control, and pizza ovens threaten society more than getting stabbed on the subway. Again, New York is giving its residents another reason to leave for Florida. Come on down, but leave your politics at the state line,” Donalds said.

Newsmax reported the proposed rule may require pizzerias with ovens that were installed before May 2016 to purchase expensive emissions-control technology.
“The proposed rule provides that the operators of cook stoves that were installed prior to May 6, 2016 must hire a professional engineer or registered architect to assess the feasibility of installing emission controls on the cook stove to achieve a 75% reduction in particulate emissions,” the notice said.
Emissions control devices are listed as “equipment used for collecting or confining particulate matter for the purpose of preventing or reducing the emission of such particulate matter into the open air.”
