SAINT PETERSBURG (FLV) – After Florida’s Voice reported on Democrat Charlie Crist’s campaign asking Hurricane Ian victims for donations, the page was quietly changed to redirect users to the Democrat’s platform.

Crist has utilized the Hurricane Ian crisis to attack Gov. Ron DeSantis, tweeting Wednesday morning, “DeSantis’s property insurance crisis was only made worse by Hurricane Ian. What are you experiencing? Share your story at http://charlie.vote/yourstory.”

After asking for victims’ stories, viewers were redirected to a page promptly asking for donations.

Florida’s Voice sent the following question to the Crist campaign the morning of Oct. 4:

Good morning,

We noticed that your campaign website is asking Ian victims to donate to your campaign. When this form is filled out, users are directed to here.

Is this intended? Does the campaign expect victims of the storm’s destruction to donate? We will include your comment in our story.

The Crist campaign did not respond, but is no longer asking victims for donations:

“If you have paid thousands in premiums under Ron DeSantis, only to have your home insurance coverage not be there for you when you need it most, we want to hear your story,” he previously tweeted.

“If you suffered damage from Hurricane Ian and have recently been dropped from your insurance, or if the property insurance crisis has impacted you and your family in any other way, we want to hear your story,” it says. When the form is submitted to the Crist campaign, though, the user was promptly asked to donate money: “Now, if you’re able, can you take the next step and make a quick donation?
