TALLAHASSEE (FLV) – A survey released by the Democrat consulting firm called Impact Research shows Gov. Ron DeSantis leading Democrat nominee Charlie Crist by 5 percentage points in the race for governor.

Florida Politics reported that the poll gives DeSantis a 51% to 46% advantage over Crist. However, the report did not disclose how Impact Research says they have “helped elect Democratic candidates” in congressional, state house and city hall elections.

“Impact has a long record of electing Democrats in tough states and districts, and beating Republican incumbents,” Impact Research’s website says.

The DeSantis campaign said they do not put much focus on polls because of their political interests.

“Political interests are almost always at the root of public polls – which is precisely why we’ve never paid them any mind, and have no plans to start,” Campaign Spokesperson Christina Pushaw said.

The Impact Research poll is reportedly the first poll since Crist became the Democrat nominee for governor. Previous polls between Crist and DeSantis in 2022 have showed DeSantis leading by 8 points and 21 points in two separate UNF polls. A Mason-Dixon survey showed DeSantis leading by 8 points with a USA Today poll showing a 6 point difference.

The Republican Party of Florida announced there are 250,000 more registered Republicans than Democrats for the first time in Florida history. Florida has been gaining momentum over Democrats since DeSantis took office.

“Governor DeSantis deserves full credit for Florida Republicans reaching this milestone, as he has lead the charge against the far left, woke rhetoric Democrats continue to promote,” said Helen Aguirre Ferre. “The tangible support behind the Governor speaks more than any poll and we look forward to proving that point in November.”
