DeSantis’ 2024 announcement causes Twitter servers to ‘strain,’ Musk says
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis’ anticipated 2024 announcement caused social media giant Twitter’s servers to “strain,” owner Elon Musk said.
Approximately 20 minutes in, the space was closed for a new one to reopen.
“Congrats on breaking the internet,” co-host David Sacks told DeSantis.
The event then proceeded as planned.
The Twitter Spaces event began at 6 p.m. EST with DeSantis and co-host Sacks as speakers.
Shortly after they began speaking, Sacks cut in and out, and both were unintentionally demoted to “listener.”
Then, Musk began speaking, eventually saying that there are so many people listening that Twitter’s servers were having issues keeping up.
The event drew around 700,000 people waiting for DeSantis’ announcement.
The governor formally announced his campaign in a Tweet shortly before the live event.
“It seems we broke the internet with so much excitement…” Team DeSantis said.
