DeSantis Breaks All-Time Gubernatorial Fundraising Record: Report
TALLAHASSEE (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis surpassed the gubernatorial fundraising record as he raised $177.4 million through Sept. 9, according to OpenSecrets.
He reportedly raised more than $31.4 million since January 2021 and his PAC, Friends of Ron DeSantis, brought in $146 million since January of 2019.
OpenSecrets said their analysis of DeSantis’ record fundraising numbers does not adjust for inflation.
DeSantis faces Democrat candidate Charlie Crist in the gubernatorial race. Crist’s individual account raised $10 million since May of 2021 and the Friends of Charlie Crist PAC brought in $9 million, according to campaign contribution reports.
Crist experienced a boost in fundraising after winning the Democratic party’s nomination during the week of Aug. 20 to Aug. 26. However, DeSantis continues to outpace his opponent.
Both candidates have spent money on ads in an attempt to garner support as the November election rounds the corner. DeSantis’ ads have centered around “keeping Florida free” and rejecting lockdowns during the pandemic. He also launched an ad outlining how is he “taking on the corporate media” based off Top Gun: Maverick.
Crist’s most recent ad attempts to appeal to “ticked off” voters as inflation continues at staggering rates. He attacked Governor DeSantis for his abortion policies and claims he is “doing nothing to lower costs for you.”
The RealClearPolitics poll aggregator shows DeSantis leading Crist by 4%.
