TAMPA (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis was re-elected for a second term Tuesday in a massive victory over Democrat candidate Charlie Crist.

DeSantis gave a victory speech in Tampa at an election party after his win Tuesday.

His landslide win reshaped Florida’s political landscape and is the largest win by a Republican governor in at least a century. DeSantis thanked the people of Florida for honoring his campaign with “a win for the ages.”

He thanked his campaign staff and said “this was the best run campaign in the history of Florida politics.”

DeSantis defeated Crist by nearly 20 points. He topped Jeb Bush’s 12.8 winning victory point from 2002, the last time a Florida gubernatorial candidate won the general election by double digits.

“Today after four years, the people have delivered their verdict. Freedom is here to stay,” said DeSantis.

DeSantis thanked voters that he may not have had support from when he initially ran for Florida’s governor in 2018 but has gained their support over his years in office.

“It’s clearly apparent that this election we will have garnered a significant number of votes from people who may not have voted for me four years ago and I just want to let you know I am honored to have earned your trust and your support over these four years.” DeSantis said.

“The woke agenda has caused millions of Americans to leave these jurisdictions for greener pastures.” DeSantis said, referring to Americans that have fled their states and cities run by leftist politicians where “they’ve seen their taxpayers abused, they’ve seen medical authoritarianism imposed, and they’ve seen American principles discarded.”

DeSantis spoke more about the “woke agenda” and said, “We reject woke ideology. We fight the woke in the legislature, we fight the woke in the schools, we fight the woke in the corporations. We will never ever surrender to the woke mob. Florida is where woke goes to die.”

DeSantis believes “the survival of the American experiment requires a revival of true American principles,” and said, “Florida has proved that it can be done. We offer a ray of hope that better days still lie ahead.”

At the end of the governor’s speech, he said, “I have finished the race in this first term and I have kept the faith. We’ve accomplished more than anybody thought possible four years ago but we’ve got so much more to do and I have only begun to fight. God bless you all, thank you very much, thank you for a historic landslide victory!”
