TALLAHASSEE (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis’ re-election campaign released a campaign ad spotlighting the governor’s education priorities and successes.

“Governor Ron DeSantis is making Florida the education state,” the narrator said.

The ad highlights historic K-12 funding, expanded school choice, and the “largest” increase in teacher pay in Florida history. Florida’s budget raised per-student funding, making it the highest amount of per-student funding in Florida’s history. The budget also brought the average starting teacher pay in Florida to more than $48,000 for the first time in Florida’s history.

The ad talks about the governor implementing financial literacy courses and civics courses as well as freezing college tuition.

DeSantis signed a bill requiring students complete a financial literacy course for graduation in all Florida high schools. He also awarded $6.5 million to launch civics academies for students starting in 9th grade.

The governor has also signed curriculum transparency legislation that will allow parents to see library books, class book lists, instructional materials, along with the ability to review and object to class materials.

The campaign also released a series of campaign ads showcasing videos of Floridians who praised the governor’s policies.

The videos included stories of a waitress and restaurant owner who kept their jobs because the governor reopened restaurants in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. You can watch the ads here.

“Governor DeSantis kept my job. A lot of people say that we’re really extremely lucky that we’re still open. I think we had the fear that we were going to close and then when the governor spoke that it wasn’t going to happen, that the state was not going to close down, it was a sigh of relief.”

Another story shared how Mary and her husband were separated from one another until the governor gave patients and families the rights to be together. Mary’s husband was put in a memory care center. During COVID-19 the center told her she could not visit him.

“When I got the call from Governor DeSantis’ office that he was coming to Jacksonville to meet with me, I sat down with he and the first lady and they both listened. One month later, they announced that he was letting us back in. I got to see Steve and give him a hug.”

Port St. Lucie Captain Bill shared about the benefits of the life-saving monoclonal treatments. The governor promoted and set up treatment centers around the state for those with COVID-19.

“I was basically bedridden after I had come down with COVID. I had heard that Governor DeSantis had made this monoclonal anti-body treatment available, so I went right in. By the time I received the series of shots, I felt much better and was able to get back to work. Without Governor DeSantis, who knows what the outcome would have been.”
