TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – A spokesperson for Gov. Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign said they don’t care about Hillary Clinton’s comments after she claimed the Florida governor was “pathetic” when he suggested presidents should exercise “proper oversight” to hold agencies accountable.

Clinton made an appearance on The Rachel Maddow Show when Georgia announced an indictment against former President Donald Trump. This becomes the fourth indictment against Trump.

DeSantis had previously said in an interview on the Larry P. Arnn Show that the Republican executive should exercise “proper oversight” to hold agencies like the DOJ and FBI “personally accountable.”

“You can’t do anything. That’s not the way the system is designed,” DeSantis said on the show.

During the interview, Maddow said DeSantis is “promising that there shouldn’t be an independent Department of Justice.”

“He’s promising anything to try to get some attention,” Clinton told Maddow. “It’s kind of pathetic, isn’t it?”

DeSantis’ campaign press secretary, Bryan Griffin, said the governor stands by his position, in a statement to Business Insider.

“We do not care what Hillary Clinton has to say,” Griffin said.

“As he has consistently said, Ron DeSantis will ensure the justice and law enforcement agencies of the federal government are de-weaponzied and held accountable for engaging in politically-motivated activities beyond the scope of their duty,” Griffin added. “The president has the power to — and should — rein in the bureaucracy when the bureaucracy is not serving the interests of the American people.”

Last week, DeSantis suspended State Attorney Monique Worrell, citing dereliction of duty. The governor said Worrell avoided mandatory minimum sentencing for gun crimes and drug trafficking offenses.

“We had a duty to act – to protect the public from this dereliction of duty,” the governor said when he announced the suspension.
