MIAMI (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis condemned socialism and Marxism when asked about Florida political advocacy groups supporting the left-wing ideologies.

The group “Florida Rising” has openly supported for socialism in the Florida. They tweeted, “we say we’re not going to fight capitalism with black capitalism but we’re going to fight it with socialism.”

DeSantis was asked about his thoughts regarding the socialist support in Florida at a press conference Thursday.

FLORIDA’S VOICE REPORTER ADRIENNE FERGUSON: “Charlie Crist has been endorsed by a group called Florida Rising and they’re openly pushing for Socialism in the state. They tweeted quote: ‘We say we’re not going to fight capitalism with black capitalism but we’re going to fight it with socialism.’ This kind of rhetoric is concerning to the Hispanic community here – what are your thoughts?’

DESANTIS: “I reject socialism outright. I reject Marxism, Leninism, communism, any of these “isms” that have come out of a political theory that basically denies the worth of each and every individual, denies people’s aspirations to reach for the stars, denies the fact that we have inherent God-given rights.”

The city of Miami is known for the large Cuban population and their anti-communist and anti-socialist principles, given many have escaped the oppressive communist regime in Cuba. DeSantis reassured the Hispanic community in Miami and patriots across the state of Florida that the radical ideologies of socialism and communism are not welcome in the freedom state of Florida.

“We are proud that in Florida we have a spine infused with a lot of the freedom-loving people in this community. That [socialism] is not going to happen here. We are going to remain the nation’s refuge for freedom,” DeSantis said.

In May, DeSantis signed legislation proclaiming November 7th as “Victims of Communism Day.” The law requires Florida high school students to learn about communist regimes and the “evils” perpetuated by those leaders.

Florida’s Voice previously reported on organizations including “Florida Rising,” “Run for Something,” and “Florida Immigrant Coalition” either advocating for socialism or defunding the police.
