WASHINGTON, D.C. – Monday, Attorney General Merrick Garland sent a letter to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) directing the agency to meet with all local jurisdictions to strategize against “threats against school administrators, board members, teachers, and staff.”

In response, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) exclaimed that Garland’s DOJ is being “weaponized” into “using the FBI to pursue concerned parents and silence them through intimidation.”

“Florida will defend the free speech rights of its citizens and will not allow federal agents to squelch dissent,” he continued.

Garland is seemingly painting the uprising of parents against school board members who promote teaching harmful topics like Critical Race Theory (CRT) as “threats” of violence.

In reality, the movement across the country, and across Florida, of parents speaking out is largely peaceful, and the claim of a widespread increase of legitimate “threats” has not been documented.
