SUWANEE, Ga. (FLV) – Rep. Rich McCormick, R-Ga., endorsed Gov. Ron DeSantis for president in 2024, the first major Georgia endorsement for DeSantis, who has not yet declared a run.

He is rumored and expected to be announcing officially at some point this week.

“We need a warrior,” McCormick said. “He’s our best chance.”

“When it comes to the 2024 election, I’ve made my choice: Governor @RonDeSantis is battle-tested and ready to be our next President,” he said.

In a video, McCormick said that under President Joe Biden and Democrat policies, crime is “overrunning our cities,” the “southern border is a wreck,” China is being “empower[ed]” and the union “has suffered.”

“We need a warrior who will do whatever it takes to champion conservative values and safeguard the next generation,” he continued.

“Most of all this election is not about the past, it’s about the future. Who can lift us up, who can inspire a nation who can lead us poor,” he said. “That’s Governor Ron DeSantis, a bold conservative, a man of character and conviction and a champion of our values.”

McCormick said DeSantis serves as Republicans’ best chance at growing the party.

“Governor Ron DeSantis is what America needs.”

Georgia is a pivotal swing state and will hand its 16 electoral votes to the candidate who can clinch it in 2024.

Last election, in 2020, the state narrowly and unexpectedly handed Biden a win, along with other swing states the Republican candidate will likely need to clinch in 2024, such Arizona and Pennsylvania.
