TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis said his administration is closely monitoring severe weather in Southeast Florida as “heavy rainfall and flooding” sweep the region.

“I’ve directed [the Florida Division of Emergency Management] to continue monitoring heavy rainfall and flooding in Southeast Florida,” DeSantis announced. “Residents in these areas should follow all orders from local officials and stay away from floodwaters.”

“Turn around, don’t drown.”

DeSantis’ message came a couple hours after the division highlighted a flood watch in effect for parts of Palm Beach and Broward County, and all of Miami-Dade County.

“If there is a flash flood warning in your area, move to higher ground & follow orders from local officials,” they warned.

The heavy rain comes as weather authorities have tracked a heavy rain system impacting Florida.
