DeSantis Presents First Responder Bonuses: ‘A Token of Appreciation’
JACKSONVILLE (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis presented $1,000 bonuses to law enforcement officers in Jacksonville after Florida officials approved bonuses for all first responders across the state for the second year in a row.
“Florida supports our first responders because these men and women put on their uniforms every day to serve and protect,” DeSantis said. “These bonuses are a token of our appreciation for the work that they do and the sacrifices they make to keep Florida safe. I am happy to deliver the bonuses for a second year in a row!”
The payments were part of the budget the governor signed this year. Police officers, sheriff’s deputies, paramedics, emergency medical technicians and firefighters are eligible for the bonus.
“But we want it to actually be $1,000 in your pocket,” DeSantis said.
The governor said Almost 100,000 Floridians are going to get a bonus check. The check will also be made for more than $1,000 to account up for any taxes taken out. Those checks are expected to be mailed within the next week.
“Florida’s firefighters and first responders are dedicated to protecting our communities and keeping Floridians safe,” said Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis. “While others seek shelter or run for safety, these brave heroes run towards danger and place their lives on the line to save others. Thank you to Governor Ron DeSantis for his unwavering support of these outstanding men and women.”
DeSantis Racks Up Pro-Law Enforcement Accomplishments in Face of ‘Defund the Police’ Movement
The DeSantis Administration has implemented a number of measures to encourage law enforcement members to move to Florida. A new law provides $5,000 for new law enforcement recruits who decide to serve in Florida. It also covers up to $1,000 for any necessary equivalent training programs for officers relocating to Florida.
