ALPHARETTA, Ga. – At a debate with California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis pulled out a piece of paper depicting the plethora of reports of “human feces” in San Francisco in his effort to contrast California with Florida.

To Newsom’s smirk, DeSantis noted the map is a “plot of human feces” with the entire thing “covered” in brown pins marking reports of human waste in the city.

The map came from data compiled by Open The Books. Some regions had so many overlapping pins that rather than viewing individual brown symbols, entire neighborhoods were blacked out.

The data dates from 2011 to 2019.

According to the data company, the map includes around 118,352 instances of “human waste being reported.”

In a single year, over 28,000 cases were reported.

There is an interactive version of the map available here.

According to Forbes, since 2008, there have been over 132,000 cases.

“Human feces is now a fact of life,” DeSantis said at the debate. “Except when a communist dictator comes to town! […] They cleaned everything up.”

The governor was referring to California cleaning up their streets when welcoming Chinese Communist Party leadership to their state.

“Just a reminder that @GavinNewsom issued a travel ban to Republican states and California leftists still manufacture and push fake ‘book ban’ lists, but this is the welcome that the CCP gets in their home state,” said Bryan Griffin, press secretary for the DeSantis campaign, in November.

“[Folks say] oh there just cleaning up this place cause all those fancy leaders are coming into town,” Newsom said during a press conference. “That’s true, because it’s true. But it’s also true for months and months and months prior to APEC we have been having different conversations.”
