NICEVILLE (FLV) – After flying planes filled with dozens of illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard Wednesday, Gov. Ron DeSantis said he is sending a message that Florida is not a sanctuary state.

“We’re not a sanctuary state. We don’t have benefits or any of that. There are some sanctuary jurisdictions and that would be better,” DeSantis said. “Now what would be best is for Biden to do is damn job and secure the border.”

The DeSantis Administration reportedly sent two planes as “part of the state’s relocation program to transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary destinations.” The office said the funds were pulled from the $12 million the Florida legislature provided to help transport illegal immigrants from the state.

“All those people in D.C. and New York were beating their chests when Trump was president saying they were so proud to be sanctuary jurisdictions saying how bad it was to have a secure border,” DeSantis said.

States including California have sanctuary state laws that prevents law enforcement agencies notifying federal authorities about the release of an undocumented immigrant from jail. It limits how much local law enforcement can cooperate with federal authorities to enforce immigration law. Cities including Washington D.C. have declared themselves a sanctuary city.

“The minute even a small fraction of what those border towns deal with every day is brought to their front door, they all of the sudden go berserk and they’re so upset that this is happening. And it just shows you, you know, their virtue signaling is a fraud.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has sent buses to of migrants to New York City and Washington, D.C. Washington, D.C. Mayor Bowser declared a public health emergency this week in response to Texas busing migrants from border states. Bowser began asking with the federal government to send in the National Guard to help with what she calls the “growing humanitarian crisis.”

“This is a policy you supported to have an open border. You don’t like it as much when you get just a small, small, small amount compared to what these folks have dealt with in Texas and other states,” DeSantis said.

The governor also criticized President Joe Biden for sending flights of migrants at night to places like New York from Texas.

“Biden would fly people in the middle of the night, dump them all across this country, there was no warning on any of this,” DeSantis said.

The Florida Supreme Court granted the DeSantis Administration its petition for a statewide grand jury to examine international human smuggling networks. The grand jury will investigate networks bringing people illegally from the southern border to Florida. It is set examine the networks’ impact on Florida and how they violated state law. It will also investigate local governments that aid in the smuggling scheme.

The flow of fentanyl from the southern border has been a focal point of the administration. Parts of Florida have seen waves of fentanyl deaths within a short period of time. The Florida legislature approved a bill to will crack down on the distribution of fentanyl and increase penalties for those dealing in Florida.
