HIALEAH (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Friday titled the “Stop W.O.K.E Act,” banning educators and workplace employers from teaching Floridians that their “moral character” is determined by race, sex, or national origin.

“We are not going to use your tax dollars to teach our kids to hate this country or to hate each other,” DeSantis said. “We believe an important component of freedom in the state of Florida is the freedom from having oppressive ideologies opposed upon you without your consent.”

The “Stop W.O.K.E. Act” bans workplace training or schools from teaching that anyone is inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously. Under the law, they can’t be told that race, color, sex or national origin determines whether someone is privileged or oppressed.

“We are not going to categorize you based on your race. We are not going to tell some kindergartener that they are an oppressor based on their race and what may have happened 100 or 200 years ago,” DeSantis said. “We’re not going to tell other kids that they are oppressed based on their race.”

The bill also states that no one should “feel guilt, anguish, or other forms of psychological distress because of actions… committed in the past by other members of the same race.”

For example, DeSantis said it would make Disney’s “white privilege checklist” illegal. The Walt Disney Company requires employees to complete a “white privilege checklist.”

“Encouraged white employees to do a white privilege checklist and a white fragility psychological test. These tests are not psychological tests in a legitimate sense but they automatically assume your guilt,” Christopher Rufo said at the bill signing ceremony.

“This program called ‘Reimagine Tomorrow’ is not only morally wrong, it is now illegal in the state of Florida. We are going to give you the weekend to make some adjustments to immediately abolish this program because on Monday if this is still part of Disney’s human resources program, there will be consequences.”
