TALLAHASSEE (FCV) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) slammed both the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) decision to extend public transportation mask mandates on Thursday.

DeSantis specifically honed in on airplane mask requirements, calling it “theater” and something that “should not have been done in the first place.” The Governor also dubbed the public transportation mask mandate a “farce.”

Governor DeSantis called on the federal government to repeal the transport mask mandate. “Let people fly and let them breathe normally!” He also forcefully stated that, “we gotta stop with the theater.”

DeSantis referenced his own children while discussing mask mandates on planes. “We would never do that to my kids,” whilst denouncing the mandate which has been in effect for about two years now.

The mandate remains in effect for anyone wanting to travel via public transportation. It is remaining in place despite senate testimony in December from Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly in which the CEO explained how masks “don’t add much, if anything.” He also stated that 99.97% of airborne pathogens are captured by the filtering system.”

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul (R) forced a vote on his resolution to repeal transport mask mandates and earlier this week it passed with bipartisan support. The White House is expected to veto the Senate’s resolution in order to keep the travel mandates in effect.
