FORT MYERS, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Tuesday he will raise more money for former President Donald Trump in light of the felony conviction in New York City last week.

Asked on his “role” in the Trump campaign, DeSantis said he and his team have “been active in raising money.”

“I think it’s important,” DeSantis said of aiding the former president’s efforts. “We’re gonna continue to do that.”

He added that in Florida specifically, there won’t be much of a race between Trump and President Joe Biden given Florida’s rightward trend.

“We are now a solid Republican state,” DeSantis said. “We weren’t when I became governor, but now we are.”

“Today, five and a half years later, we have 930,000 more registered Republicans than Democrats. Nobody can match that,” he said.

The governor said that since the 2020 election, there has been massive internal migration throughout the U.S., out of northern and bluer states across the Sun Belt and red-leaning states – and said it could impact typical electoral swings come November.

DeSantis helped raise over $3 million to benefit Trump in May. The governor’s involvement has drawn praise from Trump after what was a heated GOP primary last year.

Amidst the conviction, where Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, Trump and his supporting organizations raised $141 million in May.
