WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (FLV) – The Palm Beach County School District has appointed Reggie Myers as acting principal of Palm Beach Central in Wellington following an alleged child abuse scandal at the school.

Five staff members, including former Principal Darren Edgecomb, were arrested Monday for allegedly failing to report “lewd and lascivious molestation of a 15-year-old girl,” according to probable cause affidavits that WPBF cited.

The alleged incident occurred in 2021, but no charges were filed at the time.

However, the alleged victims father later contacted police to pursue charges against staff members at the school he believed were “criminally negligent,” according to WPTV.

Under Florida statute, school employees are directed to notify any incident to the Department of Children and Families.

Edgecomb is being held on $10,000 bond. Under Florida law, failure to report child sex abuse is a third-degree felony with a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

Myers reportedly previously served as principal of Park Vista High School in Lake Worth before stepping aside in 2021. He was principal at the school since 2008 and holds 40 years of overall experience within the school district.

“I’ve had 40 good years in my career,” Myers said at the time of his initial retirement. “I don’t think there’s ever been a day, in fact, I know there’s never been a day in my career that I did not want to get up and go to work.”
