ORLANDO, Fla. (FLV) – Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., slammed New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg for a potential indictment of former President Donald Trump over alleged “hush money” for an affair with Stephanie Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels.

“What Alvin Bragg is doing is the definition of a political prosecution,” he said. “The DOJ, FEC, and Alvin Bragg himself previously said there was no there there—why the change now?”

“This is another miscarriage of justice directed at Trump. Enough is enough.”

Appearing on CNN, Donalds was asked about Trump supporters protesting the rumored arrest or indictment of the former president.

“Do you think they should be peaceful?” he was asked.

“Of course,” he said. “Every protest should peaceful.”

“But let’s be very clear: What Alvin Bragg and his office [is] attempting to do is use, essentially, an investigation that the DOJ, looked at the FEC looked at, they did not bring charges,” Donalds said.

“They said there’s nothing really to do with this. They moved on, and he’s trying to, to quote legal experts, ‘shorehorn’ some legal theory to go get Trump,” he said.

“That’s the essence of political prosecution.”

Several members of Florida’s delegation to Washington, D.C., including Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., slammed Bragg, along with Gov. Ron DeSantis.

“I support President Trump,” Luna told the New York Times. “This is unheard-of, and Americans should see it for what it is: an abuse of power and fascist overreach of the justice system.”

At a press conference Monday, DeSantis grilled Bragg for being “funded” by left-wing billionaire donor George Soros and for “weaponizing” his office.

“If you have a prosecutor who is ignoring crimes happening every single day in his jurisdiction, and he chooses to go back many, many years ago, to try to use something about porn star hush money payments. You know, that’s an example of pursuing a political agenda and weaponizing the office,” he said.

“That’s fundamentally wrong.”

The governor pivoted to his own encounter with a “Soros-funded” district attorney – Andrew Warren – whom he suspended.

“The Soros district attorneys are a menace to society and I’m just glad that I’m the only governor in the country that’s actually removed one from office during my tenure,” he said.

“I’ve got real issues I got to deal with here in the state of Florida,” DeSantis said. “We’ve got so many things pending in front of the legislature. I’ve got to spend my time on issues that actually matter to people. I can’t spend my time worrying about things of that nature.”

“We’re not going to be involved in it in any way.”

DeSantis previously suspended State Attorney Andrew Warren.
