TALLAHASSEE (FLV) – An email scam, posing as the Trump campaign, circulated Monday attempting to fundraise using Gov. Ron DeSantis image– only shortly to be debunked by sources close to the Trump campaign.

Spectrum News Channel 13 in Orlando anchor Greg Angel (@NewsGuyGreg) shared the email, which used DeSantis’ campaign logo, photo, and name in order to fundraise, saying “Chip in just $5 to Help Save Florida.” In the fine print, it said “Thank you for joining Team Trump.”

After Twitter users investigated the source of the email, the website did not lead to an official campaign donation page. The original tweet has been deleted, but quickly racked up over 1.4 million views.

“My error was in the editing of the tweet – it sounds like the Trump campaign was behind the email without confirmation. Point remains – it’s critically important to read the fine print,” said Greg Angel.

Brad Parscale, former Digital Director and Campaign Manager for Trump, tweeted the email is fake and did not come from Trump campaign.

“Fake. You should confirm things first. Making more #FakeNews like usual,” he said.

Last November, Former President Trump announced he will be running for president in 2024. Gov. Ron DeSantis has not said that he would run for president.
