CLAIM: Governor Ron DeSantis’ plans for deterring illegal immigration to Florida would violate federal law

CLAIMANT: Media activists

FACT CHECK: False: State governments can enforce immigration law

TALLAHASSEE (FCV) – Governor Ron DeSantis (R) plans to deter illegal immigration to Florida. Media activists have claimed that this would violate federal immigration law.

It is not illegal for states to aid in enforcement of both federal and state law.

Leftists and Democrats, on the other hand, believe that it is legal to deter federal immigration law via sanctuary cities.

The same media activists also argued that it was illegal for DeSantis to ban school mask mandates and vaccine mandates. Ultimately, it was legal for him to ban those mandates after he won in court.
