SOUTHWEST FLORIDA (FLV) – As crews continue to clean up and rebuild following Hurricane Ian’s destruction, Gov. Ron DeSantis continues to be thanked by emergency services personnel.

James Lee, a Captain with West Manatee Fire Rescue, says the informational flow has been seamless to each branch in recovery efforts.

“I really appreciate the effort the Governor has taken with the state. I thank him for the support that he has for all of the emergency service workers, ya know, come down here and speak to the groups and just show his support, for the emergency services as well as the public has been exceptional,” Lee said.

DeSantis responded to the video by saying, “Thank you to the firefighters, search & rescue teams, police, sheriffs, EMTs and nurses who sacrifice so much to keep #FloridaStrong.”

Former President Donald Trump also praised DeSantis for his emergency response.

“We also thank God for the Coast Guard and the National Guard – law enforcement, always, and first responders, and countless others who have stepped forward in this time of need. And, God bless our governor and God bless all of the mayors.”

President Joe Biden had kind words for DeSantis, saying his response to Hurricane Ian was “pretty remarkable so far” after a press conference last week.
