TALLAHASSEE (FCV) – ‘Objective’ Florida news website Florida Politics went after Governor Ron DeSantis for not offering “strong words” on Ukraine, contrasting him with U.S. Senator Rick Scott (R) and U.S. Representative Charlie Crist (D).

“Rick Scott, Charlie Crist offer strong words on Ukraine while Ron DeSantis avoids commenting,” the headline reads.

“In the wake of the remarks, two former Florida Governors now serving in Congress offered emphatic responses, while Gov. Ron DeSantis avoided the topic entirely during his morning news conference in Hialeah.

Rick Scott urged President Joe Biden to fully divest from Russia and provide defensive capabilities, or a no-fly zone, to Ukraine.

Crist said that Putin’s war is a “war on democracy” that is claiming “countless innocent lives,” saying that DeSantis is “the weakest governor in America on Russia.”

The Florida Politics Twitter account tweeted out that Scott and Crist “fill Ukraine messaging void as @GovRonDeSantis stays quiet.” After blowback from conservatives, they deleted it.

DeSantis Press Secretary Christina Pushaw explained that Scott and Crist are federal officials to which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed Congress, their legislative body.

“Governor DeSantis is the governor of a state. Senator Scott and Representative Crist are members of Congress. Zelensky addressed Congress yesterday,” she said.

Individual states are not responsible for foreign policy – the federal government is.

“Because the federal government, not states, drives foreign policy,” she continued.
