TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Republican Party of Florida Chairman Evan Power highlighted the “sad” state of the Florida Democratic Party as it launched its “Take Back Local” program ahead of the 2024 election season.

The program seeks to help local Democratic candidates in “competitive” races across the state.

“Just to show the sad state of the @FlaDems all these races are for incumbents or seats currently held by non Republicans,” Power said on social media.

“I guess it sounds better than ‘hey we are defending the seats we currently have,'” he added.

According to a press release by the party, Democratic resources will be focused on the campaigns of Maria Rodriguez for Pembroke Pines City Commission, Karen McNeil for Winter Garden City Commission, Andy Thomson for Boca Raton City Council, Yvette Drucker for Boca Raton City Council, George Oliver for Ocoee City Commission and Mark Bunker and Javante Scott for Clearwater City Council

Drucker and Bunker are both seeking reelection, while the other candidates hope to fill seats currently held by individuals who Power described as “non Republican.”

Democratic Party Chairwoman Nikki Fried explained that the elections for the seats will take place on March 19 during Florida’s presidential preference primary.

“These races are nonpartisan so it’s important for voters to know which candidates will fight for our values and it’s our job as a party to provide the infrastructure democratic candidates need to win — that’s how we will take back Florida,” she said. “We are fielding candidates and contesting races everywhere and it starts at the local level.”

Republicans recently expanded their statewide lead over Democrats to more than 800,000.
