PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (FLV) – The Florida League of Cities appointed Panama City Beach Mayor Mark Sheldon and Councilman Michael Jarman to two of the league’s five Legislative Policy Committees.

Sheldon was appointed to the 2023-2024 Municipal Administration committee, while Jarman was placed on the Transportation and Intergovernmental Relations Committee.

Panama City Beach’s mayor described it as an “honor” and “privilege” to be on the Municipal Administration Committee.

“We want to continue to lobby for legislation that will benefit our community and our residents,” he said. “We will maintain our efforts to ensure the strength of home rule, which leaves decisions that affect local residents in the hands of local communities.”

Jarman also expressed how he was “excited” to represent Panama City Beach on the state level.

“We want to continue to lobby for legislation that will benefit our community and our residents,” he said. “We will maintain our efforts to ensure the strength of home rule, which leaves decisions that affect local residents in the hands of local communities.”

Sheldon has many years of planning and development experience, including his time on the city’s planning board.

Jarman comes from 18 years of experience in the fire equipment business after he received his Masters in Business Administration at Louisiana State University-Shreveport.

Sheldon and Jarman have come under recent fire from the public for voting to give Panama City Beach’s City Manager Drew Whitman expansive emergency powers that several members of the public viewed as unconstitutional.

Both local officials were first elected to their positions in 2020 and will be up for re-election in 2024.
