TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – WalletHub ranked Florida fifth to last in their list of “Most Patriotic States in America of 2023.”

According to the report, Florida ranks 46 out of 50.

The top five include Virginia, Montana, Alaska, North Dakota and Maine.

WalletHub said they compared “13 key indicators of patriotism” for their ranking.

“Our data set ranges from the state’s military enlistees and veterans to the share of adults who voted in the 2020 presidential election to AmeriCorps volunteers per capita,” they said.

WalletHub said Americans may feel their patriotism “dampened this year in the face of societal issues like relentless high inflation and elevated homicide rates.”

The report said many people “may find it hard to celebrate a country where countless people are struggling and frequent violence persists.”

“However, an expression of love for fellow citizens is patriotic in itself,” the report said.

The report said despite the problems facing the country, most Americans will still gather to celebrate July 4th – the most patriotic day of the year.

Comparing “red” and “blue” states, referring to a state’s party control between Democratic and Republican, they found that Democratic states were slightly more “patriotic” than Republican ones.

Some of the metrics used include aspects of military and engagement, such as share of civilian adult population in military reserves, veterans per 1,000 civilian adults, share who voted in 2020 presidential and primary elections, volunteering, and more.

Active duty military personnel was another metric used.
