TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Supreme Court of Florida Chief Justice Carlos Muñiz was reelected to his post by the court’s members on Thursday, with his next two-year term to begin on July 1.

His role is to act as the chief administrative officer for Florida’s judicial system.

Muñiz is a Gov. Ron DeSantis appointee, selected by the governor shortly after his first term began in January 2019.

The chief justice was a member of former President Donald Trump’s administration under then-Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos.

He also has an “extensive career” in Florida’s government and formerly served as an attorney for the U.S. government and privately.

Before Muñiz was the chief justice, the role was held by Charles T. Canady and Jorge Labarga – both still on the court.
