Florida teams help Texas make hundreds of southern border arrests

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – Florida teams helped Texas officials make more than 600 arrests at the southern border.

Gov. Ron DeSantis provided an update Monday after he sent teams of Florida personnel following the Texas governor’s request.

The 600 arrests included felony charges for human smuggling, drug paraphernalia and unlawful carrying of weapons, according to the governor’s office. Other arrests include a suspect with a capital murder warrant and an MS-13 gang member on the U.S. Terror Watch List.

Over the weekend, more than 230 pounds of drugs were seized.

More than 300 Florida National Guard personnel are helping Texas officials with observation points and roving patrols.

About 30 Florida Department of Law Enforcement are assisting Texas agencies with criminal activity border investigations.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is aiding with “holding the line” and preventing migrants from illegally crossing.

A fourth wave of 20 Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation office deployed to Texas to help with interdictions.

DeSantis has made illegal immigration one of the focal points of his administration, as well as his campaign for president in 2024.

The governor visited the southern border in Arizona earlier in June where he announced his plan to organize states and sheriffs to battle illegal immigration.
