TALLAHASSEE (FCV) –  Johnny Van Zant and Donnie Van Zant, collectively known as the Van Zant brothers, released their new hit single this morning titled “Sweet Florida” in honor of Governor Ron DeSantis.

“Sweet Florida” was written as an anthem for freedom-loving Floridians who support DeSantis.

“The press don’t like him. He stands for what he believes. So don’t come down here and try to change things, we’re doing alright in the Sunshine State. Stay out of our business and leave our Gov alone,” it says.

“Our governor, he’s red, white, and blue. Down in Sweet Florida, he’s shootin’ us straight and telling us the truth,” read the lyrics.

“Sweet Florida” praises Governor DeSantis’ work in office, and at one point specifically references the “Brandon” administration and Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Fauci: “He [DeSantis] doesn’t care what Brandon thinks at the White House. Yeah, he’s fighting for the right to keep our state free. Well, he’s taken on the swamp and he’s callin’ out Doctor Fauci. He’s the only one fighting for you and me.”

Governor DeSantis and the Van Zant brothers appeared on Fox & Friends Friday morning where “Sweet Florida” and its music video featuring DeSantis were debuted.

During the interview on Fox, DeSantis discussed how he suggested to the Van Zant brothers that they make a song for Florida, saying he only expected them to do something minor such as tweaking an old song. However, “Sweet Florida” is a brand new song, written and produced specially as a tribute to Governor DeSantis’ strong leadership.

The Van Zant brothers continued to say that it only took them a couple hours to put together “Sweet Florida” after briefly speaking with DeSantis about a potential campaign song. “For them to do that, I think it’s really, really special. They did a great job,” said DeSantis.

DeSantis continued, saying, “After I was in the studio, I’m leaving and it starts playing in my head! I played it for my wife and kids and my five-year-old daughter sings it. That’s how you know you’ve got a winner on your hands!”

When the Van Zant brothers were questioned on why they wrote “Sweet Florida”, Johnny Van Zant responded, “First of all, we gotta thank Governor DeSantis for standing and believing what he believes. We are both [brother Donnie Van Zant] raised in Jacksonville… He stands for everything that we believe, and he’s been a great governor for us.”

“Sweet Florida” is available on Spotify and Apple Music

Lyrics of the song can be found below:

The press don’t like him

But he sure does get my business

He stands up for what he believes

So don’t come down here trying to change things

We’re doing alright

In the Sunshine State

Stay out of our business

Leave our gov alone

Down in Sweet Florida

Our governor is red, white, and blue

Down in Sweet Florida

He’s shootin’ us straight and telling us the truth

You can take it to the bank

He don’t care what Brandon thinks at the White House

Yeah, he’s fighting for the right to keep our state free

Well, he’s taken on the swamp and he’s callin’ out

Doctor Fauci

He’s the only one fighting for you and me

Down in Sweet Florida

Our governor, he’s red, white, and blue

Down in Sweet Florida

He’s shootin’ us straight and telling us the truth

Well, we ain’t been locked down

We still have our freedom

We can still see our friends and family

Oh, our kids are in school

And we can go to church on Sunday

And it’s all because DeSantis knows how to lead

Down in Sweet Florida

Our governor, he’s red, white, and blue

Down in Sweet Florida

He’s shootin’ us straight and telling us the truth

Down in Sweet, Sweet, Sweet Florida

Our governor, he’s red, white, and blue

Down in Sweet Florida

He’s shootin’ us straight and telling us the truth

Down in Sweet Florida

He’s kicking it up

Standing them down in Florida

He’s a military man

With the courage to withstand them all

Yeah, we’re free down in Florida

Our governor is red, white, and blue
