Florida’s Siesta Beach one of the best in the world: study
SIESTA KEY, Fla. – Florida’s Siesta Beach in Siesta Key was ranked one of the best beaches in the world, according to a recent study.
Conducted by Tripadvisor, Siesta Beach was listed as the the ninth best beach, making it one of two U.S beaches inside the top 10.
The study reviewed analysis of “high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions” from the Tripadvisor community for its findings.
“Whether you want to relax or fill your day with activities, Siesta Beach delivers,” Tripadvisor said. “Kick back on the white sand, go swimming in the clear water, play some outdoor sports, or simply admire the sunset—it’s up to you.”
According to the list, Siesta Beach received 4.5 “stars” based on 8,500 reviews. The beach is located on Florida’s southwest Gulf Coast near Sarasota.
“The family-friendly beach is easy to get to via public transportation, offers wheelchair access, and has plenty of parking, restrooms, and a small concession stand,” Tripadvisor said. “There are a variety of shops and lively restaurants nearby, too.”
The study named Praia da Falésia in Olhos de Agua, Portugal as the world’s best beach. It was followed by Spiaggia dei Conigli in Lampedusa Italy; La Concha Beach in San Sebastian-Donostia, Spain; Ka’anapali Beach in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii; and Grace Bay Beach in Grace Bay, Turks and Caicos.
“Praia da Falésia is known for its dramatic cliffs, golden sands, and sparkling blue waters,” Tripadvisor said. “Sunbathe on the huge shore, go swimming or body surfing in the waves, or stroll along the scenic footpath on top of the cliffs and check out the incredible views.”
While listed as one of the best beaches in the world, Siesta Beach was evidently named one of the top destinations in the United States, coming in second place behind Ka’anapali Beach.
Like Hawaii, Florida placed two beaches in the top 4, with Hollywood Beach in Hollywood, Florida coming in fourth place with 4.5 stars. Poipu Beach Park in Poipu, Koloa, Kauai, Hawaii was named third-best.
“Whether you want an action-packed beach day or something more relaxed, you can do it all at Hollywood Beach,” Tripadvisor said. “Kick back in a quiet area on the shore and take in the view of the blue water and sunset. Or head over to a busier spot where you can rent beach equipment and do watersports.”
Hollywood Beach, as the study noted, is known for its “broadwalk” where visitors can see a band or bike along the beach. It also has many restaurants and bars, including Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville.
La Jolla Cove in La Jolla Cove, San Diego, California rounded out the top five. The rest of the list include Cannon Beach, Cannon Beach, Oregon; Santa Monica State Beach, Santa Monica, California; Driftwood Beach, Jekyll Island, Golden Isles of Georgia, Georgia; Coligny Beach, Hilton Head, South Carolina; and Ocean City Beach, Ocean City, Maryland.
