FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (FLV) – Florida drivers might be feeling a bit more pain at the pump as the average cost for a regular gallon of gas in the state has climbed to $3.66, according to AAA data.

The mark represents an almost 40 cent increase over last month in Florida. State prices are still down from last summer when an average regular gallon of gas cost $3.93.

“Oil prices are the primary culprit behind the recent jump at the pump,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “The U.S. price of oil rose 15% through the past five weeks, which raised the cost of producing gasoline.”

Currently, the U.S. price for oil traded is $81.61.

Florida is still below the current national average of $3.76 for a regular gallon of gas. Prices across the United States were $3.54 a month ago and $4.22 this time last year.

As of today, California has the highest price of any state in the country with Golden State drivers seeing a $5.00 price at the pump.

Gas prices in Southeast Florida are still higher compared to other parts in the state.

An average gallon of regular gas in Broward County is $3.70 while Palm Beach County is nearly 10 cents higher at $3.79.
