SACRAMENTO (FLV) – Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom vowed a donation to his party’s nominee for Florida governor, Charlie Crist, in the amount of $100,000 to defeat incumbent Republican Ron DeSantis in Nov.

“Time to make Ron DeSantis a one-term governor. I’m pledging $100k right now to @CharlieCrist,” Newsom Tweeted. “Who will join me in helping Charlie become the next Governor of Florida?” Newsom linked to Crist’s ActBlue donation page.

The donation push comes after Crist presumptively wins the Democrat nomination for Florida governor on Tuesday’s primary by hundreds of thousands of votes over Nikki Fried.

Democrats are facing a fundraising and turnout disadvantage. DeSantis reportedly has over $135 million in on-hand campaign cash, raising $24.8 million in July alone. Crist, on the other hand, raised just $2.5 million with $4.5 million on hand.

On Tuesday’s primary, more Republicans voted for their agriculture commissioner candidates – Wilton Simpson, the presumptive winner, and James W. Shaw – than all four Democrat candidates.

Simpson received more votes than Crist, and Shaw received more votes than Fried. Republicans did not have a governor or senator option on the ballot, while Democrats did.

Polls also give DeSantis an advantage of around 8 points.
