PINELLAS COUNTY (FLV) – The Florida GOP slammed Florida’s 13th Congressional Candidate Democrat Eric Lynn for pushing mask mandates on kids in schools in 2021 as the Nov. 8 election approaches.

Lynn called for schools to mandate masks on children in August of 2021.

“I’m calling on Pinellas County School Board Members to put our children’s, families, & community’s health over politics. The Delta variant is spreading & endangering our children. We must follow the science w/ a mask mandate for those who’re unvaccinated,” Lynn previously said on Twitter.

His campaign sent an email calling on the Pinellas County School Board to require masks, citing coronavirus cases and deaths. Lynn also questioned whether he should take his kids out of school because they were too young at the time to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

“I am calling on members of the Pinellas county School Board to do the right thing and require masks in schools for those who are unvaccinated,” Lynn said. “Our children and our community’s children’s lives are at stake. We know that masks are the most effective way at stopping the spread of the Delta variant, let’s follow the science and save our children.”

The GOP then criticized Lynn for campaigning maskless that same summer.

“Tampa Bay won’t forget what hypocritical Florida Democrats tried to do to their kids. For them it was never about the science and always about control,” RNC Spokeswoman Julia Friedland said.

Lynn’s campaign did not respond to Floridas Voice when asked for a comment and will update this story if a response is received.

Lynn’s challenger for the 13th Congressional District seat, Republican candidate Anna Paulina Luna, told Florida’s Voice the following:

“Eric Lynn is has continued to show Pinellas residents that he will work for ‘rules for thee but not for me.’

He is a career Washington insider who will rubber stamp the Nancy Pelosi and Biden agenda.  Vote Luna November 8 and let’s take back the house.”

Luna previously said a Super PAC with nearly $5 million dollars is “trying to buy this seat,” as she faces off against Eric Lynn in the 13th Congressional District race.

Recent reporting from Open Secrets shows liberal Super PAC Progress Pinellas has spent nearly $5 million dollars against her as she faces off against Eric Lynn in the 13th Congressional District race.

Progress Pinellas funding comes from billionaire Justin Ishbia, who contributed $5 million dollars from 2021-2022, according to Open Secrets.

Ishbia is Eric Lynn’s first cousin, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Ishbia is a Founding Partner of Shore Capital, a microcap private equity firm based in Chicago, as reported by Forbes.

Lynn is a former Senior Advisor to President Obama, national security expert, small business owner, community advocate, and St. Petersburg native.

Luna is a conservative activist and Air Force veteran who spent a total of six years in the military, including five on active duty.

As of the end of September, Luna raised $2,672,826 and currently has $620,467 cash on hand. Lynn raised $1,850,224 with $798,964 cash on hand.
