MARCO ISLAND, Fla. – As part of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ proposed 2024-2025 budget, he wants over-the-counter pet medication to be permanently tax free in Florida.

“We are going to make permanent something that we did this year on a temporary basis,” DeSantis said.

In 2023, Florida lawmakers approved a sales tax exemption for over-the-counter pet medications during the two 14-day disaster preparedness sales tax holiday.

“So after this next legislative session, the over-the-counter pet medications will permanently be tax free in the state of Florida,” the governor said.

This year’s proposed “Focus on Florida’s Future” budget would spend a total of $114.4 billion with a surplus of $16.3 billion. It includes $1.1 billion in tax relief.

“We’ll continue to provide big tax relief,” the governor said.

The 2024 Legislative Session to consider the governor’s requests begins in January.
