SARASOTA, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis attended an unveiling ceremony Wednesday for the launch of “Governor Ron DeSantis Park” in Sarasota.

“As a dad, I am glad that this is here so that so many families will be able to enjoy it in the future,” DeSantis said at the ceremony. “What a great park!”

The park includes two dog parks, two playgrounds, two shaded pickleball courts, fitness trails, restrooms, accessible parking and solar lighting, the county said.

It is located at 7510 Prospect Rd in Sarasota.

The county noted the naming of the park was a result of “an online vote by Manatee County citizens.”

“Governor Ron DeSantis always prioritizes the well-being of Florida families,” Manatee County District 4 Commissioner Mike Rahn said.

“May this park pay tribute to his commitment as a dedicated family man and offer a wonderful backdrop for Manatee County families to create lasting memories together,” he said.

“It seems fitting to name a family park after Governor Ron DeSantis, given his commendable leadership and dedication to both his role as governor and as a devoted family man,” Manatee County Commission Chair Kevin Van Ostenbridge said.

“Governor Ron DeSantis Park will serve as a lasting tribute to the families of Florida that he passionately represents and fights for every single day,” he said.

DeSantis has prioritized encouraging Floridians to enjoy the outdoors and recreation throughout his administration.

Recently, the governor handed Floridians steep discounts for state park passes, and state hunting and fishing licenses.

“Florida is home to some of the best state parks, waterways and recreational lands in the country, and I encourage all Floridians to get outdoors, experience our extraordinary natural resources and enjoy our fundamental right to hunt and fish,” DeSantis said.

The discounts take place Saturday, Oct. 14. and will last for three months, ending Jan. 13, 2024.

“And we are now making it more affordable for families to get outside and enjoy these wonders by offering state park passes and fishing and hunting licenses at sharply discounted rates,” the governor said.

The governor’s office said DeSantis is a “strong supporter” of Floridians enjoying the outdoors by hunting and fishing, or by taking their families to parks.
