TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – Floridians Protecting Freedom is launching a campaign to pass a constitutional amendment supporting abortion rights, according to reports.

However, pro-life organizations call this move part of the “radical abortion lobby’s” playbook.

The newly created group, Floridians Protecting Freedom, plans to host a press conference on Monday at 10:00 a.m. to kickoff the campaign.

“Floridians Protecting Freedom is launching a ballot initiative campaign to give Florida voters the chance to ensure their personal medical decisions are theirs and theirs alone to make,” the news release said.

“The decision to have an abortion belongs to Floridians, their families, and those they trust – this campaign is an opportunity to ensure those protections remain in our state Constitution.”

Representatives of groups, including Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida, will reportedly take part in the kickoff.

“The overwhelming majority of Floridians think we should all have the freedom to make their own personal health care decisions without interference from politicians,” the group’s website said.

The state policy director for the national pro-life organization, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, said the “radical abortion lobby’s post-Dobbs playbook is clear.”

“Groups like the ACLU and Planned Parenthood are flooding states around the country with millions of dollars to confuse and deceive the people, enshrine brutal late-term abortion on demand right up to birth with no protections for babies born alive, and destroy the right of parents to protect their daughters,” SBA Pro-Life America’s State Policy Director Katie Daniel said.

In April, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a six-week abortion ban into law after Florida lawmakers approved the bill.

“Governor DeSantis consistently acts on the will of the people who overwhelmingly support parental consent before abortion for minors and who want to protect babies with beating hearts,” Daniel said.

The six-week ban is waiting for a Florida Supreme Court decision on the 15-week abortion ban before taking effect.

“We are proud to support life and family in the state of Florida,” DeSantis said. “I applaud the Legislature for passing the Heartbeat Protection Act that expands pro-life protections and provides additional resources for young mothers and families.”
