Hundreds Of Walmart, Publix Stores Close Due To Hurricane Ian

FLORIDA’S GULF COAST (FLV) – Hundreds of Publix and Walmart stores have shut down and many are offering modified hours as Hurricane Ian hits Florida on Wednesday.

As of Wednesday morning the storm was a Category 4 “that is knocking on the door of a category 5 storm,” according to Gov. Ron DeSantis.

All stores in the following counties are closed and expected to reopen on Friday, Sept. 30:

•       Citrus
•       Charlotte
•       Collier
•       DeSoto
•       Hernando
•       Highlands
•       Hillsborough
•       Lake
•       Lee
•       Manatee
•       Marion
•       Osceola
•       Orange
•       Polk
•       Pasco
•       Pinellas
•       Sarasota
•       Seminole
•       Sumter
•       Volusia
•       Brevard
•       Indian River
•       Monroe

The following stores in Monroe county will open back up post storm today, Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m.
•       #1445 (1112 Key Plaza, Key West)
•       #500 (3316 N. Roosevelt Blvd., Key West)
•       #575 (5407 Overseas Hwy, Marathon)

More than 400 Publix grocery stores are under “modified hours” as a result of the now Category 4 storm, according to Fox Business.

“Please keep in mind hours may be adjusted, and the status of individual stores is subject to change based on Hurricane Ian’s track and projected impacts. As always, our priority remains on the safety of our associates, customers and communities,” said Hannah Herring, Publix’s Media Relations Manager.

As of Wednesday morning at 11:05 a.m., 164 Walmart stores have been closed.

The Walmart website says, “the safety of our associates, customers and members is always our top priority. Walmart’s Emergency Operations Center is monitoring Hurricane Ian in real-time, assessing the status of our facilities in the path of the storm. We will continue operating as long as it is safe to do so.”
